The AGC of Metropolitan Washington, DC awarded the George Mason University, Patriot Center project with the 2009 Washington Contractors Award for Best Renovation/Restoration under $75 million. PJ Dick provided preconstruction and construction services with a GMP for renovations and additions to the existing Patriot Center.

The additions provided three separate additions at the South, West and North quadrants of the building that included a total of 48,000 SF of space. Theses new spaces will allow for steel framed and masonry load bearing assemblies,a new box office, four new concession stands, four new large restrooms, expanded lobby areas, administrative offices, and a hospitality suite.

The renovations include a cosmetic upgrade to the concourse, new dressing rooms, and a serving kitchen. The scope of work also included an event power capacity upgrade to allow the venue to accommodate the power needs of larger productions without additional generators, new HVAC, electrical, plumbing, sitework and landscaping.

The work was performed in four phases and the Patriot Center remained open and operational throughout construction, as host to over 125 events per year.
