A Positive Partnership
On-Site Training for IUP Safety Science Majors is a Triple Win for Students, PJ Dick-Trumbull-Lindy Paving, and Clients
Since 2002, PJ Dick – Trumbull – Lindy Paving has offered internships to university students seeking BS or MS degrees in safety, many of which we have retained and are currently working in our family of companies.
Recently Indiana University of Pennsylvania highlighted the program’s success on its web site, “Department of Safety Sciences: What You’ll Become.” The article features Trumbull Corporation’s Jessie Cunkelman, a 2013 IUP graduate:
“The successful partnership we have with IUP has benefited not only PJ Dick – Trumbull – Lindy Paving, but also the students we hire and our clients,” said Vice President Joe Franceschini. “We have an opportunity to develop great, high potential talent to be our own employees or to work directly for our clients, especially in the energy sector.”
HIRED EVEN BEFORE SHE GRADUATED: Trumbull Corporation offered Jessie Cunkelman ’13 a part-time job while she was still a student; after graduating with her Safety Sciences degree, she started full-time as a site safety manager. Jessie says her IUP professors “definitely prepared me for my field. I’m doing very well, and I love my job. I’m very happy with how things turned out… When I have to write new procedures, the training I had at IUP really helps out. It’s very pertinent to what I do now.” -- Jessie Cunkelman, ’13, Safety Sciences, Site Safety Manager for Trumbull Corporation.
